Free Re Install Of The Windows 10 DVD Player

If you want to re install Windows 10 after obtaining the free upgrade you will find that you loose the free copy of the Windows 10 DVD player you were given for upgrading from Windows 8 Professional With Media Center or Windows 7 Home Premium / Ultimate.

However fear not, this simple guide will show you how to re-install the Windows 10 DVD player for free!

First download the Windows 10 DVD player for your version of Windows 10, either 32bit or 64bit:

The above downloads link directly to the Windows 10 DVD player on Windows Update, so you can be assured the file is safe.

One downloaded, use WinRAR to extract the cab file, this can be done by right clicking on either the windows10.0-kb3081704-x64.msi or windows10.0-kb3081704-x86.msi depending on which file you downloaded, then select extract here:

Next you want to make two folders in the root of your C:\ drive called temp and temp2.

Copy either the windows10.0-kb3081704-x64.msi or windows10.0-kb3081704-x86.msi you extracted in to the temp folder you just created.

Once the command prompt has loaded type the following depending on the edition of Windows you have.

  • 64bit: msiexec /a c:\temp\windows10.0-kb3081704-x64.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\temp2

The Windows 10 DVD player can be used as normal on your clean install of Windows 10, just as if you had upgraded from Windows 7 or 8:

I hope if you have clean installed Windows 10 and wanted to re-install the Windows DVD Player app you found this tutorial useful.

I would suggest you also checkout VLC, it’s a media player which will play DVD’s and just about any audio / video file you can think of, without requiring any additional codes to be installed. Best of all VLC is free, and is an Open Source application.

Three Different Classes on E-commerce Customer

The company where I work sells repair parts / home security upgrade related products online. Currently we have three main outlets.

  1. The E-Commerce Website
  2. Ebay
  3. Amazon

Over the last couple of years i’ve noticed the mindset of people shopping at each different on-line outlet is very different.

The E-Commerce Website – Generally I would class customers on the e-commerce website to be your average on-line shopper, they know how to use a search engine and have usually purchased on-line before. These customers are happy to upgrade from the standard free 2nd class delivery to first class delivery to get the repair part quicker.

The Ebay Customer – Ebay customers expect to be treated like royalty and pay as little as possible for the privilege. For the Ebay customer it’s all about price, if another seller is selling the same product as you and is a little as 1p cheaper, you will loose the sale. Reputation, Feedback or even if the customer has purchased from you before will not come in to it. The pure motivation is price.

Not only is eBay all about price you are expected to go above and beyond the call of duty and be available 24/7 365. I can sort of understand the mentality behind this, a lot of people on Ebay are your average person like me and you, selling random unwanted gifts, or selling things from home, so probably will be around to answer questions during the evening when the majority of people are likely on-line shopping after a hard days work.

Some Ebay customers will “ask for a quote” for buying two items that are £5 each, then be disappointed when you tell them the price is £10… On Ebay you can sometimes be saving up to 15% on our eCommerce website price as it is!

Despite having to sell some items at discount prices on Ebay and pay the listing, PayPal and Ebay Fees it is more than worth while still, it gives great exposure for the company and gets more people on the actual eCommerce website where the full product range is listed.

As far as Ebay customers go though some if your going to get a down right ignorant customer, it likely will be on Ebay. I could post more about this, however that would kind of be going off topic, so perhaps best left for a future blog post.

The Amazon Customer – If you are able to provide a same day or next day dispatch Amazon customers will love you. The majority will never ask questions and simply purchase the product. The product can be priced higher than your own E-commerce website and still sell well. For some customers Amazon is the only on-line shopping site they use and most importantly trust. Customers expect a speedy, secure service, which regular Amazon customers know Amazon rigorously enforce. With options like Fulfilled By Amazon (FBA) a customer can purchase form you in the middle of the night and often have it delivered next day. Compared to Ebay, Amazon customers are in a totally different league.

Apple TV 2 XBMC Install / Kodi Downgrade

So you have a Jailbroken Apple TV 2 and want install a specific version of XBMC or Kodi, this mini tutorial will show you how to do so.

You might be wondering why would you not simply do:

  • apt-get update
  • apt-get remove org.xbmc.kodi-atv2

That would install the latest version of Kodi, which normally wouldn’t be a problem. However development of Kodi for the Apple TV 2 platform has come to an end, so eventually you might no longer be able to do this. Another reason might be you want to boot in to boot Kodi / XBMC directly when the Apple TV is powered on for ease of use by family members, this is not possible with the latest version of Kodi.

First ssh in to your Jailbroken Apple TV, the default username is root and the default password is alpine.

Now do: apt-get update – This updates the packages available from the repositories, it wont hurt to do this.

Remove Previous versions of XBMC / Kodi:

Work you way down the list below and copy / paste the commands which are highlighted in bold to remove and clean-up from any previous Xbmc / Kodi installs.

rm -f *kodi*.deb – Deletes any previous Kodi .deb files you might have downloaded

rm -f *xbmc*.deb – Deletes any previous XBMC .deb files you might have downloaded

apt-get remove org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 – removes XBMC if you have installed it from the repository

apt-get remove org.xbmc.kodi-atv2 – removes Kodi if you have installed it from the repository

rm -Rf /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC – Removes any previous user settings for XBMC

rm -Rf /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/Kodi – Removes any previous user settings for Kodi

Installing a specific version of XBMC or Kodi:

You can download any past version of XBMC / Kodi you desire here, the Vim.org repository has all of the past XBMC / Kodi versions at the moment.

So if for example if you wanted to install the final version of XBMC which is 13.2 Gotham I would do the following:

wget http://ftp.vim.org/mediaplayer/xbmc/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_13.2-0_iphoneos-arm.deb – this would download the XBMC 13.2 Gotham version to my Apple TV. If i wanted to download a different version i would simply type wget then the address of the deb I wished to download.

dpkg -i *xbmc*.deb – This will install the XBMC 13.2 Gotham version i just downloaded.

apt-get install org.tomcool.xbmc-booter – This installs the XBMC booter which automatically boots in to XBMC instead of the default Apple TV 2 user interface. Note: Do not install this if you wish to use Kodi, your Apple TV will siply boot to a black screen. However you can simply ssh in to the Apple TV again and type apt-get remove org.tomcool.xbmc-booter to remove the XBMC booter

reboot – Reboots the Apple TV

Once rebooted you should be presented with a clean install of your chosen version of XBMC / Kodi.

Here is a simple list of commands for your copy + pasting pleasure:

apt-get update
rm -f *kodi*.deb
rm -f *xbmc*.deb
apt-get remove org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
apt-get remove org.xbmc.kodi-atv2
rm -Rf /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC
rm -Rf /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/Kodi
wget http://ftp.vim.org/mediaplayer/xbmc/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_13.2-0_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i *xbmc*.deb
apt-get install org.tomcool.xbmc-booter
reboot

Hopefully someone will find this useful sometime in the future to downgrade or simply install XBMC on their Apple TV 2. I personally wanted to downgrade to XBMC 13.2 Gotham because I wanted the Apple TV to automatically boot in to XBMC for ease of use by family members.
